  Interesting Note: Not all Wackers are Wacker Plate Compactors

  Wacker turned out to be a fortunate name for a German company (now Headquartered in the U.S.) selling plate compactors the UK. The name "wacker plate" became more of a descriptive noun rather than referring to the name of the manufacturer. OK, in english it should be "whacker plate" and it often is, coming from Sheffield we'll not mind a few dropped H's. If we translated the German "wacker" in to english we would a "brave plate", certainly doesn't have the same ring to it!.
